Nollywood veteran Jide Kosoko scraps plans to celebrate his 70th birthday in grand style

VETERAN Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has joined the ranks of celebrities scaling back on their social activities in response to the growing economic hardship ravaging the land after he postponed his 70th birthday celebration for the time being.

Mr Kosoko, who turned 70 on January 12, said he appreciates his colleagues and fans who came up with the idea of celebrating his contributions to the industry while he was still alive. However, he said he is but putting celebrations on hold because of the masses, of which he is a part of.

No doubt, his decision would have been influenced by the recent criticism directed at the wife of a redeemed Christian Church of God clergyman, who recently held a lavish party on Lagos, which was condemned as insensitive. Inflation is running riot in Nigeria at the moment, pushing the price of basic foodstuffs beyond the reach of many.

With the government forced to offer palliatives to the hungry, Mr Kosoko got the cue and urged his family and friends to rather use the occasion to reach out to the less privileged in the society. He took to Instagram to say that he was sure that very soon, the challenges facing the country will be over and we will all be happy about it.

Last week, fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, cancelled his birthday celebration due to the current economic hardships in the country. He decided to cancel his planned lavish 67th birthday celebrations in sympathy with the worsening economic plight of most Nigerians.
