Nigeria-eligible teenager Callum Olusesi signs his first professional contract with Spurs

NIGERIA-eligible teenage striker Callum Olusesi has signed his first professional contract with English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur which came into effect on his 17th birthday on March 17.

Olusesi is the third teenager of Nigerian descent to have agreed a scholarship with Tottenham, following in the footsteps of central defenders Timi Adekunle and Theo Adelusi. In his final season as a schoolboy, during the last campaign, Olusesi made his debuts in the Uefa Youth League, U18 Premier League and U18 Premier League Cup, scoring three goals.

During his time with the youth side, Olusesi helped Tottenham to win both the U17 and U18 Premier League Cup in the recently-concluded season. He played in both cup finals, featuring in the showpieces against Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa respectively.

Spurs have confirmed that Callum has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club. Fifa's regulations on the status and transfer of players state that 'players under the age of 18 may not sign a professional contract for a term longer than three years and any clause referring to a longer period shall not be recognised.

Last summer, Olusesi signed scholarship forms with Tottenham and also agreed to a professional deal effective upon his 17th birthday in March 2024. Spurs coaching staff holds Olusesi in high regard and he has added goals to his game this term, mustering nine in total in the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League Cup.

Olusesi has represented his country of birth England at U16 and U17 levels. This means that to represent Nigeria at senior level, he will have to undergo a switch with global footballing body Fifa before he is eligible to feature for the Super Eagles.
