CHELSEA wingback Victor Moses dazzled in the Super Eagles last training session yesterday as the team put final preparations to its World Cup opener today just as the Croatians revealed their starting line-up for the match.
This evening at the Kaliningrad Stadium, Nigeria will get her 2018 World Cup campaign underway, hoping to secure Africa's first win in the tournament. Yesterday, both Morocco and Egypt lost their opening games 0-1, losing to Iran and Uruguay respectively and the whole continent now looks up to the Super Eagles to restore its pride.
At yesterday's final training session, Moses, who has not been playing up to his standard of late, dazzled during the closed door warm-up. Tactical drills and possible formations were worked on by the technical crew team before a practice game between the players who are likely to start in today’s encounter and those pushing to break into the line up.
During the session, Moses was his usual self, gliding past tackles and he also put in a positive shift in defence despite his role as one of the three strikers alongside Alex Iwobi and Odion Ighalo for the possibles. His return to form and sharpness will no doubt give coach Gernot Rohr a lot to be delighted about as the Chelsea ace is among the players Nigeria will rely on later today against Croatia.
Meanwhile, Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic, refused to comment on his possible line-up for the game in yesterday’s pre match conference but details of his team have leaked. At his final training session, Mr Dalic lined his players up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Danijel Subasic selected in goal while Mario Mandzukic will play as the lone striker upfront with Andreij Kramaric playing just behind him.
As expected, the duo of Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric will play as the two midfielders, which means Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovavic drops out of the starting line-up. Croatia then has Dejan Lovren and Domagoj Vida as its central defence pairing.
Croatian line-up:
Danijel Subasic
Ivan Strinic
Sime Vrsaljko
Domagoj Vida
Dejan Lovren
Ivan Rakitic
Luka Modric
Ante Rebic
Ivan Perisic
Andrej Kramaric
Mario Mandzukic
