Lagos State police asks Dbanj to officially report the death of his son after mourning period

LAGOS State Police Command has asked Afrobeats star Oladapo Olabanji popularly known as Dbanj to make a formal report on the circumstances that led to the death of his son following the toddler's drowning over the weekend.

On Sunday, Dbanj's one-year old son David drowned at his home in the Lagos suburb of Ikoyi while taking a swim in the family swimming pool. Just last month, Dbanj celebrated David's first birthday but on Sunday, his joy was cut short after the toddler drowned while apparently swimming at home with Lineo, the singers' wife.

Edgal Imohimi, the Lagos State police commissioner, said that the family should report the incident after the period of mourning. Chief Superintendant of Police Chike Oti, the command’s spokesman, quoted Mr Imohimi as saying that the state command had sent a delegation to condole with the family.

He added: “The police commissioner wants the family to know that at this period of their grief, the entire command shares in their pains. It is expected that when the mourning period is over, the family will formally report the circumstances that led to the unfortunate death of the little Daniel to the police."

Celebrities who have commiserated with Dbanj include Don Jazzy, singer Bank W, Tiwa Savage and Dr Did. Others include Big Brother Naija 2018 alumni Alex Unusual and Tobi Bakre, as well as singer Dija and actress Tonto Dikeh, who have all sent him condolence messages.
