Agatu local government chairman warns soldiers that they will attract the wrath of the gods if they abuse local women

MEN of the Nigerian Air Force (Naf) serving in Benue State under the military's Quick Response Mission have been warned against sleeping with local women or having illicit relationships with village girls because if they do they will face the wrath of gods.

 

As part of the military's response to the growing menace of communal killings brought about by the activities of Fulani cattle herdsmen, men of the Naf have been posted to Benue State to keep the peace. Historically, Nigerian soldiers notorious for rape and other forms of sexual offences whenever they have been posted to locations, leading to the birth of thousands of so-called military children.

 

In response, Comfort Alhassan, the chairman of Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State,  warned the air men that this time around though, an illicit relationships with village girls will invoke the wrath of the gods. Speaking in Agatu during the activation of the 21 Quick Response Wing of the Naf, she warned that any illicit sexual relationship with the girls would spell doom for the soldiers.

 

Mrs Alhassan told the soldier hat although she acknowledged that the soldiers' bodies are not made of wood, she would advise them not to get swelled by their emotions. She added that if any of them are in love with a local woman, they should notify their parents of their intentions but avoid illicit sex with them.

 

She, however, commended the federal government for situating the quick response wing of the Naf in her local government area, saying they can now sleep with two eyes closed. Mrs Alhassan promised to support the soldiers by providing their food needs, adding that whatever their needs, they should ask for.

 

In addition, Mrs Alhassan also commended the federal government for drilling a borehole within the vicinity of the military facility to supply water to the host community and assured that the facility would be protected. Soldiers posted to the area are there to end the ongoing killings that have resulted in herdsmen sometimes sacking whole villages.
