Iwobi voted man of the match as Arsenal demolish Leicester 3-1 in Premier League game

SUPER Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi was voted man-of-the-match in Arsenal's 3-1 demolition of Leicester City last night in an English Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium that featured three Nigerian players.

In a game that marked Arsenal's seventh straight league victory and 10th successive in, the Gunners came from a goal down to clinch victory, German playmaker Mesut Ozil pulled a goal back just before halftime before Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored to second half goals to secure all three points.

This win also took the Gunners to within two points of leaders Liverpool and Manchester City after nine games under new coach Unai Emery who has transformed Iwobi into a near-perfect footballer. Although Mesut Ozil bossed the game particularly in the second half, Iwobi was consistent from start to finish and deservedly picked up the official Premier League man-of-the-match award ‎after the match.

Apart from Iwobi, Super Eagles players Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi also featured, starting for Leicester. Ndidi had a faultless game too, setting up the opener for Leicester and in the second half nearly scoring with a header that cannoned off the crossbar.

Ndidi said: “I would say it’s a bit disappointing in the second half as we did our bit in the first half, we did really well. When we conceded the second and then the third, everything just didn’t go our way.

“If we’d have got the penalty and then the ball hadn’t hit the crossbar everything would have worked perfectly for us. We just look forward and take confidence into the next game.”
