West Brom's Yusuf Ojebode shuns England and pledges his international future to Nigeria

WEST Bromwich Albion (WBA) teenager Yusuf Ojebode has opted to shun England and focus on playing for Nigeria in the future despite missing out on the recent West African Football union (Wafu) tournament earlier this month.

According to soccer news outlet Owngoal, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) officials had invited Ojebode to play for the Flying Eagles in the recent Wafu U20 championship which took place in Togo. He had agreed to feature for Nigeria in the tournament but WBA stopped Ojebode, 17, from going because he just returned from an injury.

In an official letter to the NFF, the club stated that he will no doubt be a part of the team in the future particularly, when its resumes training ahead of the Confederation of African Football U20 campaign. Shortly after impressing against Fulham in an U18 game where he bagged an assist in a 2-1 win for West Brom, Ojebode was sent an  invitation by the England youth team but his advisers have already ruled him honouring it out.

"No way is he going to consider playing for England now. The decision to play for Nigeria has been made and it stays same for now. He is keen on playing for Nigeria at U20 level and hopefully he will be called up when preparations starts for the Africa U20 Championship," one of his advisers said.
