OAU Ife accounting student macheted to death by armed robbers for refusing to hand over iPhone

ARMED robbers have killed Obafemi Awolowo University 300 Level accounting student Abiodun Babalola for his refusal to surrender his iPhone to them after they invaded his hostel in the ancient town of Ile-Ife.

According to eyewitnesses at  the Adam and Eve Hostel, Parakin, Ile-Ife, the robbers, who wielded machetes and charms, attacked the hostel around 2am on Sunday and moved round the rooms, dispossessing residents of their belongings. Apparently, the late Babalola was not in his room when the robbers invaded the hostel located on the outskirts of the town but was killed in a neighbouring room.

One of the sources said: “Abiodun was in another student’s room when the robbers arrived and he was cut with a matchete in the head because he refused to release his iPhone to them. They were just two inside that room when the robbers entered there but I cannot ascertain the number of the robbers but they were many.

“Many people lost mobile phones and other valuables too and some other students were injured by the robbers. But Abiodun’s injuries were severe and he bled for some hours before he died at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile -Ife, around 6am.”

Folasade Odoro, a spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, said the police had commenced investigations into the matter. She noted that the perpetrators would be apprehended and made to face the consequences of their actions.
