Boko Haram behead Governor Gaidam of Yobe State's security aide after he challenged them at roadblock

BOKO Haram have beheaded one of Yobe State's Governor Ibrahim Gaidam’s security aides on the outskirts of the state capital Damaturu after shooting him when he challenged them at an illegal roadblock they mounted.

According to security sources, the aide, a police officer known as Inspector Ahmed, was killed at Kukareta, a Damaturu suburb as he was returning to the capital after an official assignment in Maiduguri. At the roadblock, he met the Boko Haram insurgents, who were dressed in military uniform and approached the terrorists to inquire from them the reason for blocking the high way.

There and then, the insurgents shot Inspector Ahmed and subsequently beheaded him, as the remaining police escorts with him ran away. One security source described the incident as unfortunate, saying the inspector passed away when the police command in the state needed him the most.

“However, from God we came and to him we shall return. We have no authority to query God.

“We leave it as an act of God and ask God to forgive his sins. The best we can do to him is to continue to work and defend what he died for”, the source said.

Over recent weeks, Boko Haram have stepped up their attacks across Yobe and Borno states, becoming more brazen and confident. Only yesterday, the insurgents stormed a military base in Kukareta village in Yobe State.
