Shehu Sani advises Dino Melaye to give himself up and end the police siege of his Abuja home

KOGI West's Senator Dino Melaye has been advised by his colleague representing the Kaduna Central Senatorial District Senator Shehu Sani to submit himself to the police in the company of his legal team to end the ongoing impasse.

Over the last week, controversial Senator Melaye has been caught in a huge drama with the Nigerian Police Force after security agents invaded his Abuja home looking for him. Unable to locate the senator, policemen have surrounded the property, cut off the electricity supply and are holding it under siege until he appears.

Senator Sani, who has also had altercations with the government over his criticism of the current administration, said the way to end the siege is for Senator Melaye to surrender.  He advised Senator Melaye to submit himself with his legal team, although he added that the methods employed by the police to arrest the lawmaker was not good for the image of the force.

"The police should end the siege on Senator Dino’s house and the senator should voluntarily present himself to the police with his legal team. The Gaza treatment is unhelpful to the image of the Police, the government and the nation," Senator Sani added.

On Friday, the siege to Senator Melaye’s residence in Maitama, Abuja came within 48 hours of him raising an alarm that the inspector-general of police Ibrahim Idris, had plans to arrest and inject him to death. Over the last year, Senator Melaye has been involved in at least four major brushes with the security forces and on one occasion jumped out of a police van taking him to Kogi State, while he also alleged that he was once kidnapped.
