PDP set to challenge election results in court after accusing APC of manipulating figures

NIGERIA'S main opposition the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) looks set to challenge the results of Saturday's presidential elections in court after it announced that the figures released were unacceptable because they had been altered before being published.

With the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) coasting to victory, the PDP has dismissed the figures published saying it was forced to take the stance because Nigeria's democracy is under the threat of derailment. Party chairman Prince Uche Secondus, alleged that the results being announced at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (Inec) National Collation Centre in Abuja were different from the originals at the disposal of the party’s agents in polling units, wards and local government areas.

He said both the officials of the commission and the agents of President Buhari’s government and had tried to alter the course of history by disenfranchising voters through the cancellation and manipulation of figures already announced at polling units nationwide. Prince Secondus alleged that 157,591 votes from 86 polling units were cancelled in Nasarawa State alone.

Also, he alleged that 10,000 illegal votes were given to the APC in Wurno local government areas in Sokoto State. According to Prince Secondus, despite provocation, intimidation and attempts to hijack Nigeria's democracy and change the course of history the PDP was on course to win the presidential elections.

Already, the PDP's, legal team has summoned an emergency meeting to deliberate on the matter and decided on the next line of action. Kabir Turaki, former minister of special duties and a senior advocate of Nigeria called the meeting in Abuja.
