Buhari urges his supporters not to gloat over his victory as he and Osinbajo collect certificates of return

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has promised to run an inclusive government during his second term in office and has warned his supporters not to gloat over his recent victory in a conciliatory speech he made while collecting his certificate of return in Abuja.

Following the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday's presidential elections, President Buhari and vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo were presented with their certificates of return this morning by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec). In a ceremony at the International Conference Centre Abuja, Inec chairman Professor Mahmoud Yakubu presented the certificates to President Buhari and Professor Osinbajo.

Sounding contrite in his acceptance speech, President Buhari pledged to continue to engage all parties as his administration would be operating an open government for the general progress of the country. He further called on all APC supporters not to gloat or humiliate the opposition, saying their victory is enough reward for their efforts.

President Buhari assured Nigerians that they would soon see a country moving to the next level as the APC-led administration consolidates on its achievements. He, however, vowed to continue the fight against corruption, saying accumulation of public wealth would not be tolerated.

In his speech, the president also offered his condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in the few instances of violence that were noted. President Buhari was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife Aisha, as was Professor Osinbajo who came along with his wife Dolapo.
