Ekiti State University appoints Emir Lamido Sanusi of Kano as its new chancellor

EMIR of Kano Alhaji Lamido Sanusi Mohammed has been appointed as the chancellor of the Ekiti State University (Eksu) in Ado Ekiti after a letter confirming his appointment was signed by Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Currently embroiled in a bitter spat with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Emir Sanusi is facing corruption charges, which he strenuously denies. However, his emirate is on the verge of being split into four and it has been indicated that Governor Ganduje might suspend him from office after a damning report initiated by the governor accused him of misappropriating funds.

Despite this, the emir, who was the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been appointed as the Eksu chancellor to replace the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, Oba Adegoke Olu Adeyemi.  According to Bode Olofinmuagun, Eksu's spokesman, Oba Adeyemi held the office for four years during the last administration of former Governor Ayo Fayose and following the end of his tenure, Governor Fayemi appointed the emir to replace him.

Prior to Emir Sanusi’s appointment, the management of the institution had paid homage to him in his palace. During the visit, the emir accepted the appointment and a formal letter confirming his acceptance was sent to the Ekiti State government by the Matawallen Kano, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed.

In the letter, the emir, thanked Governor Fayemi and the Ekiti State government for the honour, promising to use his influence and wealth of experience to advance the course of the university. It Eksu is the fourth university in the country to have appointed the emir as chancellor since he ascended the throne.
