Ondo South's Senator Nicholas Tofowomo appoints 46 assistants to help his discharge his duties

SENATOR Nicholas Tofowomo representing Ondo South Senatorial District has set a new record in the National Assembly by appointing 46 non-statutory aides to help him discharge his legislative duties.

Elected into office for the first time earlier this year, Senator Tofowomo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 81, 892 votes to defeat the incumbent Senator Yele Omogunwa of the ruling All Progressives Congress who polled 55, 610 votes. According to Senator Tofowomo's spokesman Olumide Akinrinlola, the appointments cut across the six local government areas of his constituency, including Okitipupa, Ilaje, Odigbo, Irele, Ese-Odo and Ile Oluji/Oke-Igbo.

He added that the aides would function as constituency secretaries, personal assistants, special assistants, special advisers and media assistants among others. All of the appointments will take effect from August 1.

Mr Akinrinlola said: “Senator Tofowomo has appointed 46 individuals as non-statutory aides in various categories that cut across the six local government areas of his constituency. These appointments are made in order to create employment for indigenes as part of his campaign promises and 40% of his salaries have been dedicated to this.

“The least paid among the appointees will earn a salary better than the take-home of a newly employed level nine officer in the state civil service. The senator has pledged not to renege on all his campaign promises."
