Osimhen described as the hottest striker in the French league since Benzema after his latest brace

SUPER Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been rated as the most ‎clinical striker to have played in the French Ligue One since Karem Benzema after scoring twice for Lille in their 3-0 win over St Etienne on Friday evening.

Now with four goals under his belt in three games since the start of the French season, Osimhen is seen as the long term solution to Nigeria's striking problems. His form is more impressive as his four goals come from just six shots on target since his move to the French side from Belgium side Charleroi where he had a productive season last year.

Last season while at Charleroi he scored 23 goals in all competitions and if he maintains his current streak he is well on course to better the tally in France, where talks of his move away in the future has already started. Charleroi signed  him permanently from Wolfsburg but may struggle to hold on to him if he keeps scoring this way.

Analyst Rob Thrainer, said that Osimhen, 20, is bringing back memories of what Karim Benzema did in the league before his move to Real Madrid in 2009. Osimhen will be on duty for Nigeria on September 10 when the Super Eagles face Ukraine in a friendly match and Coach Gernot Rohr will expect more of this form.

Mr Thrainer said: "A lot of good forwards have played in Ligue 1 but Osimhen is special. He moves and finish in the box is no different from that of Benzema and the way he ghosts past his markers is not something that is common among footballers of his age."
