APC national working committee lifts suspension of Akeredolu, Okorocha and Amosun

NIGERIA'S ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lifted the suspensions on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and former governors Ibikunle Amosun and Rochas Okorocha that were imposed earlier on in the year for anti-party activities.

Following February's general elections, the trio were suspended for backing rival aspirants against the official APC candidates. Governor Akeredolu supported his candidates for National assembly positions, while then governors Amosun and Okorocha backed their own rival candidates for the governorship positions of Ogun and Imo states respectively.

After reviewing their suspensions at a meeting yesterday, the APC's national working committee (NWC) decided to welcome the trio back into the party. Also, the NWC decided to pardon party members Osita Okechukwu and Usani Usani, who were also earlier suspended for anti-party activities.

APC publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said: “Through the suspension, our party has shown the capacity and willingness to implement its own rules and enforce discipline when there is an infraction. We have also shown that no individual is above discipline and that the leadership of the party will always apply equity and justice in the day-to-day running of the party.

“We hope the concerned party members will seize this opportunity to fully reconcile themselves with their ward, local government area, and state party structures. They will key into the party activities, and continue to make their own contributions to the growth and stability of the party."
