Nurse Onyenachi Obasi dies from Covid-19 in the UK leaving behind special needs teenage son

NIGERIANS in the UK have launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for the funeral of Onyenachi Obasi  the latest nurse to succumb to the coronavirus pandemic who sadly passed away after contracting the virus at work.

Ms Obasi, 51, contracted the virus while at work and on May 6 at 2.50am, after a long battle in the intensive care unit died of complications arising from infection. Described as a sweet soul who touched many lives, Onyenachi, is survived by a 19-year special needs old son.

A family spokeswoman said: "Please help us raise funds to bury our mother, sister, aunt and friend. A dedicated key worker working on the front line, who fought till her last breath and gave her life doing what she loved.

"Onyenachi Obasi is a kind, beautiful, loving and well respected person in her community of Barking & Dagenham. She is a 51-year-old Black British national who professionally worked as a nurse and was a sweet soul that touched many lives.

"Left behind is her 19-year-old son, who is vulnerable, has special needs and was fully dependent on her. This news is negatively affecting our family, emotionally, psychologically and financially. 

"Our family will be in charge of the funds and hope to bury her in the coming weeks. The bulk of the fund will be used to give her the burial she deserves, while the rest will be used to support her special needs son for the foreseeable future."

She added that as a family, they are saddened that Onyenachi passed on while putting her life selflessly on the line for others. So far the Go Fund me campaign is doing well, attracting attention from well-wishers.
