Lagos to being offering drive-through concerts after initial completion of trial run in Lekki

LAGOS is all set to begin hosting drive-through entertainment concerts after the successful completion of a pilot project at Bay Lounge along Admiralty Way in Lekki which got the approval of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (Lasepa).

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Lagos State banned all public gatherings, including concerts, religious services, sporting activities and cinemas. There are now plans to lift this ban but any easing is expected to come with stringent guidelines that limit the number of people who can attend an event and insist on social distancing too.

According to Lasepa, the pilot drive-through is a new holistic way of connecting audiences, while observing social distancing guidelines. Lasepa general manager Dr Dolapo Fasawe described the pilot project which was organised by Palazio Lifestyles, as a test run for the new format to be adopted.

She said: “This government is not unmindful that the entertainment/ hospitality sector has been one of the hardest-hit as a result of total lockdown due to global pandemic, hence the need for this holistic move. The use of facemasks and checking of temperatures at entrance is a must, as is total compliance to social distancing at rest rooms and the provision of hand sanitizers.

"There shall be not more than two persons on the stage at any one time too. An approved timeframe must be adhered to, noise must not exceed the approved limit for the environment and the monitoring team of the agency must be on ground to ensure compliance.”

According to Dr Fasawe, attendants are encouraged to stay in their vehicles for the duration of the concert. She added that there should not be more than three occupants in each vehicle at a time.
