Super Eagles striker Josh Maja joins Fulham on loan until the end of the season

SUPER Eagles striker Josh Maja has joined English Premier League side Fulham on loan from French club Bordeaux on loan for the rest of the season as the west London team desperately seeks to avoid relegation.

Maja, 22, was born in London and played at youth level for Crystal Palace and Fulham, before joining Sunderland, making his senior debut in September 2016. He made his debut for Nigeria in September 2019 when he came on as an injury time substitute for Victor Osimhen in a 2-2 draw against Ukraine and is hoping to establish himself as a Super Eagles regular in the run-up to the 2022 World Cup.

Fulham have the option to make the deal for Maja permanent at the end of the campaign, which they will likely exercise if the clubs stays up. During the 2018/19 season, Maja scored 16 goals by mid-January for Sunderland before departing for Bordeaux and last season in France he scored seven goals, including a hat-trick against Nimes.

Maja said: "This is a big opportunity and I look forward to meeting up with the team and working hard to achieve positive results."

Fulham co-owner Tony Khan added: "I'm delighted that we've been able to bring Josh back to Fulham. He's made tremendous progress in the years since he left our academy, and now he's returning to the club in our first team with an opportunity to earn his place in our squad and prove himself at the highest level."

At Fulham, Maja will join up with Super Eagles team mates Ola Aina and Tosin Adarabioyo and Ademola Lookman. Last week, Fifa cleared Adarabioyo and Lookman to play for Nigeria as they had featured for England at youth level.
