Buhari congratulates Prof Ibrahim Abubakar appointed dean at University College London

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Professor Ibrahim Abubakar on his recent appointment as the new dean of the Faculty of Population Health Sciences at the University College London (UCL).

 

Professor Abubakar is a world-leading scholar in the field of infectious disease epidemiology, who holds a Master of Science degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He also holds a DPH from the University of Cambridge and a PhD from the University of East Anglia.

 

Presidential spokesman Mallam Garba Shehu, said Professor Abubakar had provided a lot of support for public health institutions in Nigeria. He noted that his contributions had helped in achieving tangible results in the area of control and prevention of communicable diseases across the country.

 

According to President Buhari, the Ahmadu Bello University-trained medical doctor, will bring his extensive wealth of experience and skills in public health into his new role. He added that Professor Abubakar’s professional record includes his leadership at the Institute for Global Health over the last five years and extends to extensive research in infectious disease epidemiology, migration and health.

 

This led to his election to the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2020. President Buhari extended his best wishes to the doctor he called the unassuming achiever, as he settles down to his new role from August 1.
