Nnamdi Ofoborh's Rangers debut put on hold after he is diagnosed with heart defect

NIGERIAN midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh looks set to miss the start of the forthcoming league campaign with Glasgow Rangers after he was diagnosed with a heart issue during a pre-season test.

Ofoborh, 21, who featured for the Flying Eagles in the 2019 U20 World Cup in Poland, signed a four-year pre-contract agreement with Scottish club Rangers in February 202. He then returned to English Championship side Wycombe Wanderers on loan until the end of the 2020/21 season and was due to begin his Rangers career this campaign but he has heart disease known as mental enit, which could affect everything.

Rangers coach Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Ofoborh will be out for a short time and although there has been no specific time for his return, it is expected that the midfielder could spend a few weeks on the sidelines. Mr Gerrard told Rangers TV after his team’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal yesterday that Ofoborh is frustrated but he will continue to speak to the central midfielder to help him psychologically as he goes through his recovery.

Me Gerrard said: “I don’t think you’ll see him in the short term as unfortunately, something has flagged up with his ECG, which is the heart test. The important thing is the player’s health, which we’ll obviously focus on first and foremost.

“Of course it is disappointing and frustrating for the player but I spoke to him yesterday, told him to keep smiling and be patient and we will do everything we can to support him. We will get him in front of the right people and the right support and hopefully he will be back, not too long.”

A Bournemouth Academy product, Ofoborh  is yet to make his long-awaited debut for his Glasgow giants after his move from the Vitality Stadium. Rangers have played three pre-season games and he is yet to make an appearance in anyone, which is very frustrating for the player regarded as having a lot of potential given his agility and ability to pass the ball.
