Imo Waste Management Agency plans to create over 5,000 jobs as part of industrial plan

IMO Waste Management Agency (Iswama) has announced plans to create over 5,000 jobs for youths and other citizens when it commences full operations as part of a comprehensive industrial programme.

Speaking over the weekend, Peter Ezeobi, the managing director of the agency revealed this during the flagging off of the scheme, involving the inauguration of 1,000 workers. He noted that revenue generation is one of the aims of the agency but emphasised that one of its overriding objectives was the creation of employment and making the state the cleanest in Nigeria.

Patrick Njoku, the head of revenue generation, business development and mobilisation at the agency,  said the targeted jobs would come from the over 200 revenue sub-heads as contained in the law establishing the agency. He noted that the agency was the creation of Imo State Law Number of 2020 as passed by the Imo State House of Assembly and assented to by Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Mr Njoku pointing out that the enabling law for purposes of revenue generation listed hundreds of revenue subheads which, would in turn yield thousands of sustainable jobs for Imo youths. He lauded Governor Uzodinma for approving the take-off of the important agency because of his desire to create employment for the Imo people and to return the lost glory of the state as the cleanest city in the country.

Governor Uzodima charged the pioneer staff to not only strive for excellence and value-addition to both citizens and government but more importantly, to give the job a human face by treating people courteously and respectfully.  Iswama is charged with the execution of the management of solid and liquid waste in the most acceptable manner to ensure optimisation of internally generated revenue and a cleaner Imo State .
