Mikel could be on his way back to the UK after parting ways with his Kuwaiti club

FORMER Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi could be on his way back to England soon after he suddenly parted ways with his Kuwaiti clubside Al Kuwait SC in a development that now makes him a free agent as the January transfer window looms.

In August last year, Mikel joined English Championship side Stoke City after agreeing a one year contract with the club desperately seeking a return to the Premier League. However, in the summer, he suddenly quit and went to Kuwait where he signed a one-year deal that was supposed to keep him at the club for the  duration of the 2021/22 season.

This morning, Al Kuwait SC took to Instagram page to announce the termination of its contract with Mikel. No details were given for the parting of ways the club just posted: “Termination of the contract of the Nigerian John Obi Mikel.”

Mikel, 34, has parted ways with the club just four months after joining and without featuring in their Premier League. There are indication that he may now return to England where his family is based and may return to playing in the English Championship.
