Ndidi doubtful for World Cup qualifier against Ghana after sustaining knee injury in Europa League game

LEICESTER City anchorman Wilfred Ndidi has become a big doubt for Nigeria's World Cup two-legged play-off against Ghana later this month after picking up a kneed injury while playing for his club in the Europa League.

Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of a 2022 World Cup play-offs on March 25 with the return leg holding in Nigeria four days later. In a big blow for Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen, Ndidi limped off in the 60th minute if Leicester's Europa League game against Rennes of France yesterday.

Three Super Eagles players were on parade during the game as apart from Ndidi, Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho also featured in the match that saw Leicester secure a 3-2 aggregate win to book a place in the quarterfinals. Lookman even provided an assist for Leicester only goal in yesterday's game scored by Wesley Fofana in the 51st minute.

After the game, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Ndidi has injured his knee and the extent of his injury is being examined. With Nigeria’s double-header game against Ghana fast approaching, playing those games without Ndidi will be a huge blow for Super Eagles.
