Nigeria scraps requirement that all visitors must take PCR test before being allowed in

NIGERIA'S federal government has announced that fully vaccinated travellers coming into the country will no longer be required to take a pre-departure PCR Covid-19 test which had hitherto been compulsory.

Like most other countries worldwide, Nigeria imposed stringent travel restrictions on everyone coming into the country in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Now that the pandemic is under control with global infection rates declining rapidly, everyone is rolling back the stringing restrictions that were in place.

Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the federal government and chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19,  announced that in the light of falling numbers, international travel protocols have been revised. He pointed out that passengers, who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, are still expected to take a Covid-19 PCR test 48 hrs before departure, or undertake a day two and day seven test on arrival.

Furthermore, Mr Mustapha noted that such passengers under this category are expected to pay for their PCR tests through the federal government’s travel platform. He added that fully vaccinated passengers will also not be charged for rapid antigen tests at the airport.
