Nigeria Police Force pays N64m to the families of 30 officers who died in the line of duty in Niger State

FAMILIES of 30 policemen who worked for the Niger State Police Command and lost their lives in the course of duty during 2020 and 2021 have been paid a sum of N64m ($154,240) by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)

Paid to the deceased operatives’ families, the money is a statutory payment owed them for losing their bread winners. Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, said that the state police commissioner Bala Kuryas released the money on behalf of the inspector-general of police Alkali Baba Usman.

Mr Abiodun said: “This welfare gesture is an initiative of the IGP Group Life Assurance geared towards improving the lives and capacity of the families left behind by these heroic officers who lost their lives in the line of duty,"

While presenting the cheques to the next of kin of the fallen operatives, the commissioner appreciated the inspector-general of police for such laudable initiative. He encouraged the beneficiaries to judiciously use the cash for the welfare of the families.

In response, the families expressed satisfaction for the gesture. They issued a statement saying: “We will ensure that the resources will be well managed towards an improved standard of our living.”
