Aston Villa teenager Carney Chukwuemeka could be on his way to the Nou Camp this summer

ASTON Villa's Nigeria-eligible midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka could be ion his way to Spain before the current transfer window closes as La Liga giants Barcelona are seriously interested in signing him.

Chukwuemeka, who played a significant part in England winning the recently-concluded  European U19 Championship, was named in the U19 Euro Team of the Tournament. Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, said Barca are very interested in snapping up the Aston Villa midfielder as he is appreciated as a player with huge potential.

During the recent U19 tournament in Slovakia, Chukwuemeka scored three goals and provided two assists in five matches. A dominant central midfielder, he was one of four England players named in the tournament XI.

With him still struggling to get into the Aston Villa side, however, Chukwuemeka could be angling for a move as a result of the lack of first team opportunities. He only made two starts from a possible 38 in the English Premier League last season.

Chukwuemeka has entered the final year of his contract with Aston Villa and would be available for a Fifa training compensation as from the January transfer window. Aged just 18, Chukwuemeka is a product of the Aston Villa academy, joining them from Northampton Town in 2016.
