Bayer Leverkusen step up plans to prise Sam Edozie away from Manchester City this summer

GERMAN Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are stepping up plans to acquire Nigeria-eligible youngster Sam Edozie from English Premier League giants Manchester City before the closure of the current transfer window.

According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Leverkusen have tabled a two-year contract for the Anglo-Nigerian winger as they look to take him to Germany. Edozie has shone brightly for the Manchester City under-23 team but the 19-year-old has found first team opportunities hard to come by.

Manchester City have already sold Brazilian Gabriel Jesus and Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and English winger Raheem Sterling to Chelsea. They have equally signed Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips to boost an already-competitive team, so may be open to letting Edozie go.

With the new signings, it will be even more difficult for Edozie to see first team look action next season. He did not make a single Premier League appearance during the 2021/22 campaign as Pep Guardiola’s team romped to the title victory last season.

Edozie’s only senior team showing since joining Manchester City is starting in the Community Shield defeat to Leicester City last year. He is a Super Eagles-eligible forward who could take a massive step towards developing into an all rounded player with regular football in the German Bundesliga.
