London doctor Obinna Obeta arraigned for conniving with Ekweremadu's in organ harvesting case

NIGERIAN London-based medical doctor Obinna Obeta has been charged with conniving with deputy senate president Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice to facilitate the travel of David Ukpo Nwamini for kidney harvesting in the UK.

In June 21, Senator Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested by London's Metropolitan Police on suspicion of child trafficking and planned organ harvesting. They were charged before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

They were allegedly planning to have David’s kidney removed for their daughter Sonia, who was suffering from kidney failure. David who earlier claimed to be 15 years old, presented himself at Staines Police Station alleging that he was transported to the UK by Ekweremadus for his kidney to be removed.

In a further twist to the case, Dr Obeta is alleged to have conspired with Senator Ekweremadu to arrange or facilitate the travel of David with a view to exploiting him through organ harvesting. Dr Obeta, 50, a medical doctor of Hillbeck Close, Southwark, southeast London appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on 13 July.

Senator Ekweremadu and his wife are still in custody as the case has been adjourned several times.  David who earlier claimed to be a minor has now confessed to the UK court that he is 21 years old but this is not expected to have any bearing on the case as the Ekweremadu's are being charged under Britain's modern slavery legislation.
