Tinubu becomes the first to congratulate new Christian Association of Nigeria president

GENERAL overseer of the Christ Holy Church International Reverend Daniel Chukwudumebi Okoh has been elected as the new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (Can) following a meeting of its general assembly.

At the gathering to elect a successor to Reverend Olasupo Ayokunle, Reverend Okoh, a native of Rivers State who was born in Kano, emerged as the new head of the Nigerian Christian faithful. Born on November 12, 1963, he is said to be a detribalised Nigerian who has built friendship across religious and ethnic lines across the country and globally.

Among other he organises and participates in conversations and programmes that would bring about peaceful co-existence among the peoples of the world and sustainable development. Reverend Okoh is a native of Ndoni in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Reverend Okoh, who attended the famous Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, is married to his wife Ngozi and they have four children. In 1988, he graduated from the University of Port-Harcourt with a second class upper division in Political Science and Education.

Among those to have congratulated him so far is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He declared that Nigeria can only expect nothing but inspired and enlightened leadership from Reverend Okoh at a time when the country is wracked by religious tension.

Asiwaju Tinubu said: “I congratulate Reverend Okoh on his election as the new president of Can, which is one of the most important organisations in the nation. Not only does it seek the betterment of the Christian community in Nigeria, its moral force and standing benefit all Nigerians as we seek to establish a just and compassionate society where people of all faiths and beliefs live and work together in peace and harmony.

“As a nation, we are in a critical moment where misguided and terrible actors attempt to destroy social harmony and reign violence on us all. These awful forces seek to stoke religious and ethnic divisions in hope of pitting Nigerian brother against Nigerian brother.

“Decent and good Nigerians of all faiths must ally again such designs. While we may not agree on everything, all well-meaning Nigerians agree that we must live in peace, must respect and honour our diversity and eschew violence and hatred.

“As long as we stand forthright and adhere to these tenets, Nigeria will defeat the plans of those who seek to place discord and hatred at our door. As Reverend Okoh assumes the mantle of leadership, it is my hope and prayer that his tenure brightens every corner of our country and may he be a shining light to all.”
