Nigerian teenage midfielder Michael Olakigbe signs four year deal with Brentford

NIGERIA-eligible teenager Michael Olakigbe has signed a four year with English Premier League side Brentford that will see him play alongside Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka in the top flight.

Olakigbe, 18, was brilliant at Fulham last season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 22 Under-18 Premier League games. A tricky and pacy right-winger, he was one of the standout performers for the Fulham U-18 team, helping them to a sixth-place finish in the league last season.

His impressive performance prompted last season’s Premier League new boys Brentford to swoop in for him. Olakigbe joins for an undisclosed fee, in a four-year deal with the option of a one-year extension.

Brentford announced the arrival of the 18-year-old wunderkind via their website. For now, Olakigbe will join the junior team but he could get the opportunity to play alongside Onyeka in the senior team if he impresses Bees boss Thomas Frank.

Born to Nigerian parents, Olakigbe has spent his entire life in England. He has already featured for the England youth team but he can still change allegiances to Nigeria at senior level if he so decides.
