I would have preferred the discussion topic at yesterday's Nigerian Bar Association summit to be about education policies such as these rather than Kashim Shettima's wardrobe malfunction

[1] We will dedicate 30% of our annual budget towards education. This amount will be ring-fenced come what may

[2] Class sizes in all primary and secondary schools across the country will never exceed 30

[3] There must be at least 10 primary schools in each of Nigeria's 774 local government areas

[4] There must be at least five secondary schools in each local government area

[5] Across the country, each local government area must have at least one polytechnic or technical college

[6] Education will be free to all pupils up until the end of secondary school

[7] All primary school pupils will receive one free meal a day

[8] Local governments will be free to raise extra taxes to fund education if the need arises

[9] Every primary and secondary school in Nigeria will be refurbished at least once every four years

[10] Head teachers of primary schools will be placed on the same salary scale as members of the state houses of assembly, while secondary school principals will be placed on the same salary scale as members of the Federal House of Representatives
