NGF chairman Governor Fayemi elected as president of Forum of Regions of Africa

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has been elected as the president of the Forum of Regions of Africa (Fofar) at its recent summit in Morocco where he represented Nigeria in his capacity as the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).

At the summit which took place in the city of Saidia in Oujda in the state of Casablanca in Morocco, Governor Fayemi was returned unopposed in an election on Friday. NGF spokesman, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo said the West Africa caucus ensured that Governor Fayemi was returned unopposed.

According to Mr Bello-Barkindo, Governor Fayemi, in his acceptance speech, described the victory as a burden of history.  He stated that it was time that Africans stopped agonising and start organising.

Furthermore, Governor Fayemi said leadership is not just a title but an instrument that should be used to influence policy and be utilised for the total positive impact on our people. Governor Fayemi's tenure is due to end on October 18,  after which he will replaced by governor-elect Biodun Oyebanji, who was elected in June.
