Saraki promises that no stone will be left unturned until perpetrators of Offa attack are caught

SENATE president Senator Bukola Saraki has assured residents of Offa in Kwara State that no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators of yesterday's killing of at least 20 people in a gruesome armed robbery attack are caught and brought to justice.

In one of the most brazen armed robbery attacks in recent times, armed hoodlums stormed Offa town yesterday, raiding police stations and killing at least six policemen. They then blocked off several major roads leading into the town before raiding about five banks, where they blew up vaults using dynamite, before making off with large sums of cash.

About 20 people are believed to have been killed in the attack altogether, including one pregnant policewoman, bank staff, customers and one senior policeman due to retire next month. Extra police units have since been drafted into the town that is still traumatised by the event as corpses are said to still litter the attack scenes.

Senator Saraki said:  “Yesterday’s savage attack on unsuspecting citizens and establishments in Offa, that led to significant loss of lives and injury is a despicable act committed by cruel individuals. Make no mistake, there will never be any valid grounds or rationale behind such violence that has left many families without their loved ones and one more community in grief and shock.

“Last night, I spoke to Governor Ahmed to express my condolence on the lives that were lost in the attack and we both agree that no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators of this heinous act are caught and brought to justice. Moving forward, it is also important that we all work together to ensure that this does not reoccur, so we must all must co-operate at various levels to increase the security of our communities."

According to the senate president, the authorities must remain relentless until everyone who planned or carried out this attack faces the full wrath of the law. Senator Saraki represents Kwara Central senatorial District within which Offa is located.
