APC postpones launch of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council indefinitely

NIGERIA'S ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the commencement of its presidential campaign indefinitely after a last minute hiccup which led to the cancellation of a grand launching due to take place today.

Former Lagos State governor Asiwaju Tinubu, emerged as the APC presidential candidate after coasting home in a landslide victory following the party's convention in Abuja. To kickstart his campaign nationally, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, the current chairman of the Northern State Governors Forum was named as the director-general of the APC's Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

This morning, the PCC had been due to kick-start the 2023 election campaign in Abuja but Governor Lalong announced that the launch had been postponed. He explained that the adjustment of the timetable was a result of the move to expand the campaign council list to accommodate more stakeholders.

Governor Lalong said:  “Recall that we had earlier earmarked a peace walk and prayers for Wednesday, September 28, 2022, to officially kick-off our campaigns for the 2023 presidential elections. We had also announced that the members of the campaign council report at the campaign headquarters on that day to collect their letters of appointments.

“However, due to the expansion of the list to accommodate more stakeholders and interests within the APC family, we have decided to adjust the time-table of these activities in order to ensure everyone is on board before activities officially commence. Consequently, the activities earlier announced for the 28th of September will no longer hold.”
