Imo governorship aspirant says backing Buhari will enable Ndigbo to produce next president

IMO State governorship aspirant and Governor Rochas Okorocha's son-in-law Uche Nwosu has urged the people of the southeast geo-political zone to return President Muhammadu Buhari to power so they can have a shot at the presidency in 2023.

Mr Nwosu, currently serving on Governor Okorocha's cabinet as his chief of staff, is married to his daughter Uloma and is the governor's preferred candidate to take over from him next year. Like Governor Okorocha, he is urging Imolites and Ndigbo generally to back President Buhari's re-election bid in next February's general elections.

President Buhari is allowed by the constitution to serve for another term, which will end in 2023 and according to Mr Nwosu, if Ndigbo back him, they will well placed to produce the next president. Nigeria tends to rotate its presidency and since the end of military rule in 1999, Ndigbo are yet to produce a president and many people believe it is their turn come 2023.

Mr Nwosu said: “Zoning the vice presidential slot to southeast zone in any party, including the PDP is a complete waste because what a president can achieve in one day, a vice president cannot achieve in eight years. Aside from the Igbo presidency which Buhari’s second term will secure for the Igbo, he has also done very well for the southeast.

“With Buhari’s declaration for a second term, Ndigbo will only have to wait for four years before producing the next president. So, there is need for every Igbo man irrespective of political party affiliation to support Buhari’s re-election bid."

He added that today, Imolites have a cargo airport in Owerri and President Buhari did it and Anambra has been enlisted among the oil producing states. According to Mr Nwosu, all these and many more were done by President Buhari, in contrast to President Goodluck Jonathan who did not do much for the geo-political zone.
