Osinbajo says killing of Benue worshippers in a church is sacrilegious and a devilish act

VICE president Professor Yemi Osinbajo has described the recent killings of Christians in a Catholic church in Benue State by suspected Fulani cattle herdsmen as sacrilegious pointing out that only devilish people can murder in a place of worship.

Yesterday, suspected herdsmen murdered 13 defenceless villagers and two catholic priests in a church in Ukpor-Mbalom community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State. This comes on top of horrendous attacks over the weekend as between Friday and Sunday, more than 31 persons, mostly women and children, lost their lives in six communities of Guma Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking yesterday at the Inauguration of the Deeper Life Bible Church new auditorium in Gbagada, in Lagos State, Professor Osinbajo condemned the debilitating act. He said a morning mass was being held when the herdsmen struck and killed the worshippers.

According to the vice president, these killings in the church were a ploy by the devil to cause religious war in Nigeria. He said while the security agencies continued to work to bring the perpetrators to book, the body of Christ must not lose focus but must do more in propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Professor Osinbajo added: “Nobody can stop the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Lord is building His church and the gate of hell cannot prevail against the church.”

He urged the church to pray for the nation and the government, saying that running a government is like a spiritual warfare. Worried by the incessant killings, Governor Ortom recently cried out that the federal government and the security agencies had abandoned his people and called on villagers to defend themselves with stones against the rampaging Fulani militia.
