Tension rises across southeast as Enugu home of Ohaneze Ndigbo president is bombed with IEDs

TENSION is rising across the southeast geo-political zone after the home of Ohaneze Ndigbo president Chief John Nwodo was bombed with an improvised explosives device (IED) over the weekend.

Although no one was reported injured in the attack, some unknown persons IEDs into Chief Nwodo’s residence at Ukehe in Enugu State. In a swift response the Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL), has condemned the attack, with its leader Princewill Richard, saying those behind it are enemies within the southeast.

Mr Richard said: “Although, we are still waiting for the group of people or new terrorists originating in the east to come out boldly and claim responsibility, I cannot understand why someone will strike and not want to send message across as to why he or she is provoked.  I wouldn’t want to say the internal crises in Ohanaeze led to this action but those behind this wicked act are enemies within and it is unfortunate we don’t know reasons behind their actions.”

He also admonished the people of the southeast not to point accusing fingers at people outside the region. Already Nigeria's main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for investigation into the explosion.

PDP national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan condemned the explosion, describing the action of the arsonists as callous, horrendous and wicked. Mr Ologbondiyan challenged Nigeria's security agencies to unravel the identities of the masked characters behind the dastardly act.

He added: “All our security agencies must swing into action and arrest the culprits to serve as deterrent to others. Our nation cannot afford another form of criminality in view of the psychological trauma Nigerians are going through with bloodletting and killings in many states of the federation.”
