Nigerian teenage midfielder Callum Olusesi shuns offers and signs a new deal at Spurs

NIGERIAN midfielder Callum Olusesi has agreed to extend his contract with north London Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs and in the process disappointing many of his suitors especially Manchester United who had been hopeful of signing him.

Last week, Football Insider reported that Tottenham Hotspur were fighting to keep hold of Olusesi amid transfer interest from Manchester United and three other English clubs in Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove and Leeds United.  Yesterday, Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, reported that Tottenham have been able to keep the talented midfielder Olusesi  with a new deal agreed despite strong interest from these other clubs.

Manchester United in particular have been dealt a big blow as they had been hopeful of snapping up the teenager. It is believed that Olusesi, 16, will start the 2023/24 season as a first-year scholar at Tottenham before going professional on his 17th birthday with the two agreements keeping him at the club until at least June 30, 2026.

Olusesi is the third teenager of Nigerian descent to have agreed a scholarship with Tottenham ahead of next season, following in the footsteps of central defenders Timi Adekunle and Theo Adelusi. In his final season as a schoolboy, Olusesi made his debuts in the Uefa Youth League, U18 Premier League and U18 Premier League Cup, scoring three goals.

During his time with the club, Olusesi helped Tottenham to win both the U17 and U18 Premier League Cup in the recently-concluded season. He played in both cup finals, featuring in the showpieces against Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa respectively.
