Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to return on June 6 when Nigeria faces Czech Republic

SUPER Eagles midfield maestri Wilfred Ndidi has been earmarked to return to action next month when he will feature for Nigeria in a pre-World Cup friendly against the Czech Republic on June 6.

By far the Nigerian player of the season, Ndidi picked up a hamstring injury last month while playing in a league match for his club Leicester City. Doctors from his club and the Super Eagles examined the player and it was suggested that he be given six weeks rest to recover and it has now been confirmed that he will be back to full fitness before the World Cup.

Ndidi will spend the next three weeks sidelined but Nigerian Football Federation spokesman Toyin Ibitoye, said the player is making good progress and could be available sooner than expected. However, it is expected that Ndidi will not play in the next three pre-World Cup warm-up games against the Democratic Republic of  Congo in Port Harcourt on May 28 and against England at Wembley on June 2.

Mr Ibitoye said: “He’s making good progress. I have been in contact with the medical team of the Super Eagles and he is recovering faster than they had even anticipated.”

“He may not play again for Leicester City this season but he is likely to at least play our final friendly against Czech Republic on June 6." Earlier this month, Ndidi was named Leicester City's Young Player of the Year.
